Setting Bank Account In ABR To Extract Automatically In Reconcile Bank Transactions

Microsoft Dynamics GPConfiguring Nolan’s Advanced Bank Reconciliation (ABR) to automatically extract transactions when reconciling a bank account is not complicated, but I keep on forgetting where the option is located. That gets a little embarrassing when you tell a client, “yes, you can do that” and then have to spend five minutes looking for the option.

So by writing it down here, I am hoping to be able to commit it to memory.

this option is per bank account and is located on the Bank Account Setup window (Financial >> Setup >> Advanced Bank Reconciliation >> Bank Setup).

Click the Options menu and then select Extract options:

Bank Account Setup

Copy Fiscal Calendar To All Companies

Microsoft Dynamics GPIn the last post I mentioned that I create scripts when implementing Microsoft Dynamics GP and then make them available to clients when they would be of benefit. The last script I posted, allowed calendars to ve copied from one database to another. Afetr writing that scirpt I then adapted it by wrapping a cursor around it which allowed a source database to be defined and the calendar copied to all other databases.

The original script is still useful as it allows a targeted copying of calendars from a source to a destination database, but the new allows calendars to be quickly replicated across all companies if they share the same financial year.

The script has two parameters (highlighted) at the top which need to be set:

  • Year
  • SourceDatabase

MDGP 2015 Feature of the Day: Vendor Approval

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog has started a series of posts on the new features of, the soon to be released, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015. As I have done for the last two releases, I intend to shadow these posts and add my own opinions on these new feature; the series index is here.

The fourth Feature of the Day is Vendor Approval. This feature is an enhancement to the new Workflow 2.0 module introduced in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 which allows users to control the setup and maintenance of vendors.

Vendor Approval allows users to create mandatory workflow processes around the setup and maintenance of vendors. These mandatory processes need to be completed before transactions can be posted. The workflow processes are defined in Workflow Maintenance (Administration area page » Setup » Company » Workflow » Workflow Maintenance):

    Workflow Maintenance

The workflow status appears on the window and actions can be taken directly from those windows, from an email or from a Navigation List.

I want to see more details about this feature as I am very much hoping that the workflow has been extended to include the EFT Bank details.

The new Workflow 2.0 is far, far simpler and easier to implement and use.

The roles targeted by this feature are:

MDGP 2015 Feature of the Day: Receivables Management Batch Approval

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog has started a series of posts on the new features of, the soon to be released, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015. As I have done for the last two releases, I intend to shadow these posts and add my own opinions on these new feature; the series index is here.

The third Feature of the Day is Receivables Management Batch Approval. This feature is an enhancement to the new Workflow 2.0 module introduced in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 which allows users to control the processing of Receivables Management batches in a more streamlined fashion.

Receivables Management Batch Approval allows users to create mandatory workflow processes around Receivables transaction batches. These mandatory processes need to be completed before transactions can be posted. The workflow processes are defined in Workflow Maintenance (Administration area page » Setup » Company » Workflow » Workflow Maintenance):

MDGP 2015 Feature of the Day: General Ledger Batch Approval

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog has started a series of posts on the new features of, the soon to be released, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015. As I have done for the last two releases, I intend to shadow these posts and add my own opinions on these new feature; the series index is here.

The first Feature of the Day is General Ledger Batch Approval. This feature is an enhancement to the new Workflow 2.0 module introduced in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 which allows users to control the processing of General Ledger batches in a more streamlined fashion.

General Ledger Batch Approval allows users to create mandatory workflow processes around General, Clearing and Budget transaction batches.

I am delighted that this functionality has been introduced. I’ve done extensive work with a client using the old SharePoint based workflow recently and I am very much looking forward to being able to replace it with the new workflow. The old was so complex; Workflow based on top of SharePoint talking to the Web Services. There were so amny points of failure and skills needed to install and configure that it made it very complex, costly and unstable.

The new Workflow 2.0 is far, far simpler and easier to implement and use.

MDGP 2013 R2 Feature of the Day: Roll Down Segment Changes

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog started a series of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 Feature of the day posts the other day. As they did with the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Feature of the Day posts they are doing them as short posts containing a PowerPoint slide show. I am translating these from the PowerPoints into posts; you can find my series index here.

The twenty-ninth Feature of the Day covered is Roll Down Segment Changes. This feature means that if the Account Segment description is changed then the change can be rolled down to accounts containing the segment.

A warning message will be displayed to prompt the user to confirm the change should be rolled down or not:

Microsoft Dynamics GP: Do you want to roll down account segment description to account that contain this segment?

This is my least favourite feature so far; the Account Description length generally isn’t long enough so users tend to do their own descriptions rather than accepting the defaults. I can see people accidentally clicking yes on the warning prompt without meaning to do so. I’ll see how things go, but a switch to disable this function might be nice.

This feature is targeted at the following roles:

    1. Accounting Manager
    2. Accounts Payable
    3. Bookkeeper

Cashbook Bank Management – Value Exists In The PM_Key_MSTR Table

Microsoft Dynamics GPA client had an odd error with the Cashbook Bank Management module the other day when trying to enter a deposit; the following was printed on the exception report when trying to post the transaction:

Value exists in the PM_Key_MSTR table

I did some digging around and found that the Next Voucher Number field in Payables Management Setup – Options (Microsoft Dynamics GP menu » Tools » Setup » Purchasing » Payables Setup) was blank.

I set a new value in the Next Voucher Number field and the deposit could be posted without problem.

Management Reporter 2012 Doesn’t Process Reports In Queue

Microsoft Dynamics GPI was on site with a client last week to do training on various parts of the system, one of which was Management Reporter.

Before the training started, I was alerted to the fact that Management Reporter had stopped working. We ran through a few issues such as the Microsoft Dynamics GP adapter disappearing from the Configuration Console (we re-added it), the Application Service was not running and couldn’t be started (it had been setup by the client using the Network Service and for some reason stopped working; we changed it to Local System and was able to restart the service but I’ve advised them to change both Management Reporter services to a Domain User account).

Once everything was set up and apparently working we encountered the final problem. When we tried to produce a report, it was added to the Management Reporter queue where it remained and did not move to a status of Processing.

I found a website discussing changing the SQL Server broker on the ManagementReporter database to true (and it was set to false) so I did this but no luck.

A little more prodding and poking at both Management Reporter and SQL Server, and I turned up the problem which was actually a fairly obvious one.

    The ManagementReporter database was owned by Domain\Administrator. Running the below script to change the database owner to sa resolved the problem and allowed the reports to be processed;

    sp_changedbowner 'sa'

Fortunately the investigation and resolution didn’t take a long time so we were able to do the full length training session.
