Installing Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2: Deploying The System Database

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 is now available. And despite notavailable. And despite note really having the time to do so at the moment, I can’t stop myself from installing it (and as I always do blogging about it as I go).

In this series of posts I am going to do install a stand-alone instance of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2; the index for this series is here.

With the client software installed we can now deploy the system database. To do this launch GP Utilities from the Windows Start screen and log in using the sa or DYNSA user:

Installing Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2: Installing The Client Software

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 is now available. And despite note really having the time to do so at the moment, I can’t stop myself from installing it (and as I always do blogging about it as I go).

In this series of posts I am going to do install a stand-alone instance of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2; the index for this series is here.

The first part of installing Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 is to install the client software itself. To newcomers this might seem a little odd, but the client software includes GP Utilities which is the utility used to deploy the system database as well as creating companies or adding the sample company.

To install the client software extract the media you downloaded from PartnerSource and double click on the setup.exe. This will launch the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 bootstrapper which will install any prerequisites.

In my case I already have Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 SP2 installed so most of them are present, with only the Dexterity Shared Components 12.0 requiring an update:

MDGP 2013 R2 Feature of the Day: Workflow Email Notifications

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog started a series of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 Feature of the day posts the other day. As they did with the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Feature of the Day posts they are doing them as short posts containing a PowerPoint slide show. I am translating these from the PowerPoints into posts; you can find my series index here.

The sixteenth Feature of the Day covered is Workflow Email Notifications; I have a PowerPoint from Microsoft, but I can’t find the related blog post.

There is a new Workflow Setup window where workflow emails can be enabled and configured:

Deployment Server Has Exceeded The Maximum Request Length Error Deploying Reports To SSRS

Microsoft Dynamics GPWhen Reporting Tools Setup is used t deploy the reports to SQL Server Reporing Services an error be produced if the default configuration of SSRS has not been amended (I thought I’d blogged about this error before, but when trying to find it to send the post to someone I couldn’t find it).

The error produced is the following:

Microsoft Dynamics GP - The deployment has exceeded the maximum request length allowed by the target server. Set maxRequestLength="20690" in the web.config file and try deploying again.Microsoft Dynamics GP – The deployment has exceeded the maximum request length allowed by the target server. MDGP 2013 R2 Feature of the Day: Document Attach – Scan

The fourteenth Feature of the Day covered is Document Attach – Scan. Document Attach was introduced in Dynamics GP 2013 and with every service pack has been further enhanced; Dynamics GP 2013 R2 is no exception with the introduction of a Scan feature.

The Scan feature allows you to attach a paper document directly into Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 using an attached scanner (previously you had to scan using external software which made attaching scanned documents a two-step process; scan the document to get a soft copy onto the computer and then go to the Document Attachment Management window of choice and attach it).

Now, just load the document into the scanner and choose the Scan button on the Document Attachment Management window of choice, and the document will be scanned and attached in one step.

The thirteenth Feature of the Day covered is Default Sort Order for Checks.his feature gives users the option of defining a default sort order for printing checks in the Payables Management Setup (Purchasing » Setup » Payables):

Payables Management Setup

Sort Options will be:

  • Payment Number
  • Name
  • State-City
  • Zip Code

This will remove the need to manually change the sort option at the time of printing checks. However, it would have been nice to also have the Vendor ID included in the options.

This feature is targeted at the following roles:

  1. Accounting Manager
  2. Accounts Payable
  3. Bookkeeper
