The eleventh Feature of the Day is Credit Limit Warning Calc for unposted Credit Docs.

This feature of the day will adjust the credit limit warning calculation when a cash receipt is entered and is applied against an outstanding invoice, but has not been posted:

Credit limit exceeded warning message

I have somewhat mixed feelings on this one and kind of hope that there is a switch to toggle this on and off based on the clients requirements.

Does Project Green Dynamics 365 Mean The Death Of Dynamics GP?

Microsoft Dynamics GPNewly anointed MVP Jen Kuntz, of Kuntz Consulting Inc. has a new blog post up where she discusses what the launch of Dynamics 365 means for Microsoft Dynamics GP and the rumours which have been springing up.

Unfortunately, some of these rumours seem to be coming from Microsoft partners themselves.

I was at the reIMAGINE Dynamics GP partner conference earlier this year, where Errol Schoenfish, the Director of Product Marketing at Microsoft, reiterated, and got us to stand up and repeat along with him that “Microsoft Dynamics GP is going nowhere.

Microsoft then displayed a slide showing the continuing development of Dynamics GP (and NAV and AX and SL alongside Dynamics 365):

RoadmapMicrosoft Dynamics GP roadmap

That was followed up more recently with a roadmap for Dynamics GP with the release of 2016 R2 at the start of December this year and GP 2018 at the start of December next year, with GP “NExt” following a year later:

RoadmapMicrosoft Dynamics GP roadmap

My reference to Project Green in the post title, was slightly tongue in cheek. Back in 2008, a merger of the Dynamics ERP was looked into briefly be Microsoft, before being discarded. That was Project Green.

It still comes up in conversations now; last year we had a prospect in who mentioned a competitor selling another ERP mentioning that GP would be merged with NAV. He stopped at that point when he saw my huge roll eyes, and confirmed it as Project Green when I asked. I then explained what it was and when it ended.

That’s the problem with rumours. When they start they can be difficult to stop. The message on Dynamics 365 from Microsoft hasn’t been great and needs to improve.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Roadmap For 2016 R2 & Later

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog recently posted the roadmap for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2, Dynamics GP 2018 and later.

RoadmapMicrosoft Dynamics GP roadmap

Following feedback from clients and partners, Microsoft are moving away from the 6 monthly releasde schedule they moved to a while ago. To be honest, that is a bit of a relief; while it was good to get new functionality, every six months was a bit much. So from now, Microsoft will be releasing new versions very 12 months.

The next release we are due is Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2 which is due for release on the 1st December, which is 13 days from now. And the day I return home from a visit on client site, so I should hopefully be able to download and start playing straight away 🙂

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 should then be available at a similar date in 2017.

Microsoft have announced that the functionality in the next release will predominately come from the community, so please go to MS Connect to enter in your feedback on what you would like in the next release. I know from experience that Microsoft do use MS Connect as a source of new features or improvements.

MS Connect Suggestion To Rename Five Microsoft Dynamics GP Payables Windows

Microsoft Dynamics GPMariano, Microsoft Dynamics GP MVP and Dynamics GP Blogster has logged a suggestion for improving Microsoft Dynamics GP on the MS Connect site.

The windows are:

  1. Select Payables Checks -> Build Payments Batch
  2. Edit Payables Check Batch -> Edit Payment Batch
  3. Edit Payables Check -> Edit Vendor Payment
  4. Print Payables Checks -> Print Payment Documents
  5. Post Payables Checks -> Post Payment Documents

Mariano has more details on his blog including screenshots of the windows in question.

Renaming these windows would be a good idea as the current names are misleading and cause confusion for new users of the system. From a partner perspective, it also looks quite bad when demoing Dynamics GP to a prospect; especially when considering that in the UK, virtually no-one uses printed cheques anymore, but instead make payments using EFT.

Please take a look at the suggestion and cast your vote.

I have two hopes; that Microsoft do make this change and that they also change it in the UK language pack.

The seventh Feature of the Day is GL Distribution Line Display UI Change.

Transaction Entry

With this new feature, General Ledger Transaction Entry and Journal Entry Inquiry windows will default the scrolling window expanded or collapsed based on the previous display state.

This is promised to be a user based default, so it will be interesting to see if it is actually user based or based upon the Dex.ini file which would make it a machine setting rather than a user one.
