ClassicPress Petitions – Let Your Voice Be Heard

ClassicPressOne of the things I like about ClassicPress is that, unlike with WordPress, the community can provide feedback which guides the development. This is done via petitions which the community can create, vote for and comment upon.

There have been changes to how petitions are managed, which Viktor Nagornyy discusses on the ClassicPress blog, Petitions Update — Let Your Voice Be Heard; this change was driven by a change in the software used for petitions.

If you’re using ClassicPress and want to help guide development, visit the petitions forum and create, vote or comment on a petition.

Victor’s post has full details of how the petitions process works.

Microsoft Dynamics GP October 2021 Release Feature of the Day: Save Inquiry Sort Options

Microsoft Dynamics GPThis post is part of the Microsoft Dynamics GP October 2021 Release Feature of the Day series where I am going to echo the posts from the Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP Blog, while adding some commentary, on the new features introduced in the Microsoft Dynamics GP October 2021 Release which is now available.

This post is on the Save Inquiry Sort Options Financial enhancement.

This new Financial enhancement makes the sorting on inqury windows much more user-friendly. The previous enhancement allowed users to choose how the data should be sorted; this enhancement, allows users to save their sorting option.

On the action pane, on the View button, the user can now choose Save Window Preferences to save their sort options:

Payables Transaction Enquiry - Creditor

The save window preferences option is available in the following windows:

  • Payables
    • Transaction by Vendor
    • Transaction by Document
  • Receivables
    • Transaction by Customer
    • Transaction by Document
    • Sales Item
  • Bank Reconciliation
    • Checkbook Register
    • Checkbook Balance.

It’s nice to see this option for users to save their sort options, as this has been an incredibly common question when showing clients how they can change the sorting.

Microsoft Dynamics GP October 2021 Release Feature of the Day: Summary Post Cash Receipt at Batch

This post is on the Summary post Cash Receipt at Batch Financial enhancement.

Previously, Microsoft have added the ability to Summary Post AR Cash Receipts as an option in Company Setup. This has been well received as it takes the customer cash received and posts a summary deposit for the transactions through Bank Reconciliation to update the checkbook. However, Microsoft have received requests that users want greater control over this process as not all batches should automatically post in summary through Bank Reconciliation.

An new option has been added with a drop down selection when Automatically post cash receipt deposits is marked in Company Setup. This drop down will display an option for the entire batch to post in Summary or to post each individual transaction through Bank Reconciliation. The system will still automatically post the deposit in Bank Reconciliation, however by this selection, you can determine if the batch posts as a combined deposit, or if each receipt in the batch will post as a deposit in Bank Reconciliation.

Receivables Batch Entry

I have a few clients using the option introduced a while ago who I think will like and benefit from this new level of flexibility in posting batches to Bank Rec.

Microsoft Dynamics GP October 2021 Release Feature of the Day: Update Account Description in Mass Modify

This post is on the Update Account Description in Mass Modify Financial enhancement.

A common request to Microsoft has apparently been the ability to recreate the account descriptions using the Mass Modify Chart of Accounts window (Financial area page » Cards » Mass Modify). This enhancement has sen an option, Update Account Description, added to the Modify drop down which will recreate the account description for the selected accounts; it will use the associated segment description for each segment separated with a hyphen:

Mass Modify Chart of Accounts

I don’t like the Mass Modify window very much and don’t think I have any clients who use it; in most cases the account description is not just a simple derivative of the segment descriptions so this function wouldn’t be much use anyway.

Microsoft Dynamics GP October 2021 Release Feature of the Day: Scroll Through Account Segments

This post is on the Scroll through Account Segments Financial enhancement.

This is a small enhancement to the Account Segment Setup window (Financial area page » Setup » Segment) to make it easier to navigate, edit or review the segments and their descriptions; scroll buttons have been added to the Number field allowing you to scroll through the segments:

Account Segment Maintenance

This is only a small enhancement, but I can see it being very useful when adding new segments or doing a quick review of descriptions.

PHP Snippets: If Statements

PHPThis post is part of the PHP Snippets series where I will be covering the basics of developing in PHP.

One of the most basic statemnts you’ll use in PHP is the if statement which is used for conditional statements which perform different actions.

The most basic form is the basic if itself which executes when one condition is true:

$time = date( "H" );

if ( $time < 12 ){
	echo "Good morning.";
}

This can be extended to supply a value if the original condition fails using an if...else:

$time = date( "H" );

if ( $time < 12 ){
	echo "Good morning.";
else
	echo "Hello."
}

And can be expanded further to check if one of multiple conditions is true using an if...elseif...else:

$time = date( "H" );

if ( $time < 12 ){
	echo "Good morning.";
}elseif ( $time < 18 ){
	echo "Good afternoon."
}else{
	echo "Good evening.";
}
