Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog has started a series Feature of the Day posts for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2; as the most recent versions have been, these posts are in the form of PowerPoint slides; I am reposting them here so they can be read more easily.

The series index for this series of posts is here.

The eleventh Feature of the Day is Credit Limit Warning Calc for unposted Credit Docs.

This feature of the day will adjust the credit limit warning calculation when a cash receipt is entered and is applied against an outstanding invoice, but has not been posted:

Credit limit exceeded warning message

I have somewhat mixed feelings on this one and kind of hope that there is a switch to toggle this on and off based on the clients requirements.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Roadmap For 2016 R2 & Later

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog recently posted the roadmap for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2, Dynamics GP 2018 and later.

RoadmapMicrosoft Dynamics GP roadmap

Following feedback from clients and partners, Microsoft are moving away from the 6 monthly releasde schedule they moved to a while ago. To be honest, that is a bit of a relief; while it was good to get new functionality, every six months was a bit much. So from now, Microsoft will be releasing new versions very 12 months.

The next release we are due is Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2 which is due for release on the 1st December, which is 13 days from now. And the day I return home from a visit on client site, so I should hopefully be able to download and start playing straight away 🙂

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 should then be available at a similar date in 2017.

Microsoft have announced that the functionality in the next release will predominately come from the community, so please go to MS Connect to enter in your feedback on what you would like in the next release. I know from experience that Microsoft do use MS Connect as a source of new features or improvements.

The seventh Feature of the Day is GL Distribution Line Display UI Change.

Transaction Entry

With this new feature, General Ledger Transaction Entry and Journal Entry Inquiry windows will default the scrolling window expanded or collapsed based on the previous display state.

This is promised to be a user based default, so it will be interesting to see if it is actually user based or based upon the Dex.ini file which would make it a machine setting rather than a user one.

This batch is being edited by JodiCh. Please try again later.

This is a simple, but oh so welcome, enhancement to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 R2; when a user tries to interact with a batch which is being edited by another user, the message will no longer simply say it is being edited by another user, but will now name the other user who is editing the batch.

No longer will I need to write, or deploy, SmartLists to users allowing them to see who is locking batches (I still might so the administrator can take a global view of their system) to simply see which user is preventing a batch from being posted.
