MDGP 2018 RTM Feature of the Day: Human Resources and US Payroll Enhancements

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog has started a series Feature of the Day posts for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 RTM; as the most recent versions have been, these posts are in the form of PowerPoint slides; I am reposting them here so they can be read more easily as well as adding my won commentary.

The series index for this series of posts is here.

The nineteenth Feature of the Day is a set of enhancements to the HR and Payroll modules. I did think about splitting this post apart as I did for the Purchase Order Processing Feature of the day Posts, but these modules are not targetted at the US and Canada, so I have nothing to add to them.

Therefore they’re all in this one post.

There are six new features across HR and Payroll:

Turn off Garnishments Reports in Posting Setup

The Garnishment reports (Garnishment Detail Report and Garnishment Detail Report now default to Ask Each Time, but can be controlled via the usual options:

The series index for this series of posts is here.

The first Feature of the Day is Document Attachment available on more windows.

Five additional windows now have Doc Attach available via a button on the action pane:

It is nice to see Fixed Assets getting some Doc Attach functionality; quite a few clients have documentation or images relating to their assets, so this offers a good way to keep these with the asset.

New Microsoft Dynamics GP Sample Data

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft have been adding quite a lot of new functionality to Microsoft Dynamics in recent versions, but the sample data has not been getting updated.

To remedy this, Terry Heley on the Dynamics GP Support and Services Blog has shared some macros, for Dynamics GP 2016, which add sample data into the Fabrikam sample data.

The new sample data focuses on a few modules:

  • Advanced Human Resources
  • Analytical Accounting
  • Workflow for HRP
  • Project Accounting Time and Expense
  • PTO Manager
  • Employee Self Service

Terry points out that this is a run at your own risk macro built on GP 2016, although it would probably be usable on Dynamics GP 2015 as well.

There are instruction documents with each macro as macros can crash based on the menu bar selected in user Preferences.

Also note that there is no support for these macros so no cases can be logged if issues are found.

The download link is available at the end of the post.

MDGP 2015 R2 Feature of the Day: Time Management App – Switching Companies

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2 will soon be released (due late May/early June and, as with previous releases, Microsoft have started a Feature of the Day series on the Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP Team blog. As I have done with the last three series, I’ll be reposting these blog posts here with a little commentary.

The eighteenth Feature of the Day is Time Management App – Switching Companies. Within the Time Management app a user can navigate through different companies they have access to within GP. Within the navigation bar, the user can see the companies they have access to. When the user selects a company the summary panel on the right is populated with the pay codes, balances and active pay periods of the company the user selected. This functionality allows the user to easily enter timecards within different companies they may have access to within Dynamics GP.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 Very Slow Login

Microsoft Dynamics GPI recently assisted a client with upgrading Microsoft Dynamics GP to 2013 R2; after the upgrade was complete we found that logging in was incredibly slow. It would take over two minutes to log in or change company.

We did a few things such as checking that all external shortcuts were valid, checking on the Quick Links and ensuring SSRS was functioning correctly (including removing Business Anlayzer from the homepage) without effect. After spending a little time investigating I remembered a blog post from the Dynamics GP Support and Services Blog where they discussed this as being a known problem with Dynamics GP 2013 R2.

The problem is caused by the navigation lists being duplicated during the upgrade. The areas you’ll see this is in the following:

  1. Under the Purchasing area page:
    • Purchasing Requisition Transactions
    • Purchase Order Transactions
  2. Under the HR & Payroll area page:
    • Historical Timecards
    • Current Timecards

MDGP 2015 Feature of the Day: HRP Workflow Pending Approval Navigation List

Microsoft Dynamics GPThe Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog has started a series of posts on the new features of, the soon to be released, Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015. The fourteenth Feature of the Day is HR/Payroll Workflow Pending Approval Navigation List. In Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 approvers have one place to view and approve employee self service changes. The HRP Workflow Pending Approval Navigation List allows you to approve/complete multiple tasks by checking the box and selecting the action to complete. The preview pane displays task details and there is a Go To option to view the assigned task.
