Recent Lack Of Posts Down To New Project

Microsoft Dynamics GPIf you’re a regular visitor then you’ll have noticed a distinct lack of posts in August. The reason is that I have been working on a side project which should come to fruition in the middle of September. I’ll be trying to restore normal service before then, but if not it will be back to normal posting from mid-September.

The side project is Microsoft Dynamics GP related and I hope it will be of use to the community; details will be supplied nearer to the release date.

New azurecurve|Ramblings of a Dynamics GP Consultant Theme Launched

azurecurveAs you can see, I have introduced a new theme on this site. Admittedly it is pretty similar to my last one (azure on white), but the previous one was based on the default 2010 WordPress theme which had become rather dated.

The new one gives me access to some new functionality and brings me up to date. I expect there to be some teething problems over the coming days as I find things that were done a certain way because of the previous theme and which will now look/work differently.

I have also taken the opportunity to remove certain elements from the theme and turn them into plugins (see the Posts Archive as an example although there are more to follow).

Please do let me know both what you think of the new theme and if you encounter any issues or peculiarities in how posts or other items are displayed.

azurecurve Twitter Archive Created

azurecurveApparently Twitter only allows you to download the last 3,200 posts you have made. While I am substantially short of this number at present, I thought it might be useful to keep an archive of these posts myself so I always had access to them.

The CMS I am most used to these days is WordPress and I recently came across a plugin and theme from Ozh which allows you to make an archive of your Twitter which looks like the new Twitter. This azurecurve Twitter Archive is now available; it has been themed to look very like my Twitter page but has all the functionality of WordPress.

Meet an MVP at the IT in Housing Exhibition 2013, London

Microsoft MVPI am going to the IT in Housing Exhibition 2013 at the Olympia Centre in London on the 19th and 20th November; my employer Perfect Image will be there to show Microsoft Dynamics GP as an option for housing associations and others in the social housing sector.

We’ll be sharing a stand with MIS Active Management Systems who offer a suite of housing focussed applications called ActiveH.

This exhibition is free to attend for both conference delegates and for visitors involved in the provision of social housing.

The exhibition features around 80 exhibits from leading suppliers and is the UK’s most highly regarded and focused event for those involved in ICT in the housing sector.

If you’re attending, why not stop by and say hello.

“Standing on the shoulders of giants” or “A new MVP is awarded”

Microsoft MVPMany events happen to me around the last two weeks of September and first two weeks of October.

This year is no different. I moved house on the 19th September and today, 1st October I have received an email from the Microsoft Community Engagement team informing me that I have been awarded the 2013 Microsoft® MVP Award.

Woohoo! Go me 🙂

However, by no means does this award mean I can relax; in fact I have a bit of a backlog of posts to get through and a couple of other ideas I’m trying to develop which will hopefully help the community on top of my current activities. I also want to get back to contributing on the Community forum again which has dipped a little due to workload and moving house (lots of boxes to unpack and furniture to assemble/position). So a busy time ahead over the coming months.

Finally, there is no way that I would have won this award without the outstanding contributions made to the online Dynamics GP community by the MVPs and other contributors. So thanks to all who contribute back to the community.

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Outlook.com: Send Without Attachments?

azurecurveI’ve been a bit quiet on the posting front recently because my second book is in the later stages of the publishing process and I need to review and respond to feedback from the editors at Packt Publishing.

To do this we’ve been emailing drafts of the chapters to and fro. And (again) this morning a feature of Outlook.com saved me from looking slightly silly when I replied to an email intending to send back an updated draft, but clicked Send without actually attaching the file;

Send without attachments?Send without attachments? Just checking. It looks like you’ve mentioned attachments but haven’t added any.

I was presented with the above message. Clicked Go back, added the file and sent the message.

I’ve talked to various people who dislike this type of message, but I really don’t see the problem with it. I’ve only ever been presented the message when I have meant to attach a file and forgotten; I’ve never received it for a false positive so I quite like it. I wish Outlook 2010 had it (or perhaps it does and I just don’t know where the setting is.

Another Posting Hiatus

azurecurveUnfortunately (well, fortunately if truth be told), the time has come for another enforced posting hiatus for me. Following my illness and emergency surgery in October last year, I am going back into hospital for follow up surgery tomorrow and will not be working or blogging for a time after while I recover.

Knowing myself pretty well, I’m sure I’ll get bored fairly quick, but Mark Polino has the antidote to any boredom with the release of his new book, Building Dashboards with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 and Excel 2013;
