eConnect 18 Prerequisites: Set Service Account as Local Administrator

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft Dynamics GP 2018 RTM has now been released and I am in the middle of a series of Hands On posts. As part of thsat series, I am about to cover the installation of the eConnect additional product on a server configured for receiving messages via the MSMQ. However, there are two prerequisites which need to be dealt with before eConnect can be installed on the server.

Usually, when doing Hands On posts, I only cover the core installs and only mentioned prerequisites such as this, referring back to old posts were necessary, but it appears I’ve only made references previously to what you have to do, without actually blogging about it. So, this series on the eConnect prerequisites, is going to be a brief diversion from the Hands On series, which will resume tomorrow.

The eConnect 18 Prerequisites series index can be found here.

Before installing eConnect, the service account it will run under needs to be configured as a local administrator. Do this by launching the Computer Management Control Panel applet.

Expand the following nodes in the navigation tree:

  1. System Tools
  2. Local Users and Groups
  3. Groups

Double click on the Administrators group in the central list of groups:

Computer Management - System Tools - Local Users and Groups - Groups

GP Table Reference Updated for GP 2018 plus First ISV Products Added

GP Table ReferenceI have now fully updated the azurecurve|GP Table Reference for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 RTM as well as adding the first few ISV products

A total of six new products have been added during the latest update.

Standard modules added are (I’m not entirely sure why these hadn’

  • Direct Debits & Refunds (8811)
  • Scheduled Installments (1150)
  • The added ISV products are:

    1. Advanced Bank Reconciliation (2440) from Nolan Business Solutions
    2. Extender (3107) from eOne Solutions
    3. MIS-AMS Extensions (3459) which is now maintained by Perfect Image, but not generally commercially available.
    4. SmartList Builder (3830) from eOne Solutions

I am going to be adding additional ISV products to the site as well, look for lighter tiles ; if you work for an ISV, or use ISV products, and want the tables added to the GP Table Reference, please get in touch with details of what you want adding.

The Mekorma products are currently on my list of the next ISV products to be added.

991 Tables Added to GP Table Reference

GP Table ReferenceEither Microsoft have added a hell of a lot of new tables to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 RTM or I had a lot more missing tables on the azurecurve|GP Table Reference than I thought I did (I knew the Email tables were missing).

I know I have added the tables for five missing products:

    1. Advanced Security
    2. Analysis Cubes for Excel
    3. Excel-Based Budgets
    4. Report Scheduler
    5. Technical Service Tools

However, overall there was 991 tables added to the site, suggesting a lot of missing tables have been added, as I know these five products do not have that many tables.

I am going to be adding ISV products to the site as well, look for lighter or darker blue tiles (I’ve not yet decided on the colour); if you work for an ISV, or use ISV products, and want the tables added to the GP Table Reference, please get in touch with details of what you want adding.

Hands On With MDGP 2018 RTM: Integration Manager First Run

Microsoft Dynamics GPMicrosoft Dynamics GP 2018 RTM has now been released. In this series of posts, I will be stepping through the installation of Microsoft Dynamics GP and additional products and then will move on to taking a look at the new functionality which has been introduced.

The series index for this series of posts is here and will automatically update as posts go live.

With Integration Manager now installed, the final step in it’s installation is to run it and enter the license key.

It is important that the first time Integration Manager is launched, you do so by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator; this ensures that Integration Manager has sufficient privileges for writing the necessary registry entries.

When Integration Manager starts, you will be presented with a Register Now/Later window; to use Integration Manager, a licence key must be entered, so click Register Now:

If you are going to be using Integration Manager with eCOnnect Adaptors, make sure eConnect has been installed on the client before following the steps in this post.

To install Integration Manager, launch the setup utility from the installation media:

Depending on server settings, you might receive multiple security warnings during the installation; click Run on each one as it appears:

And, under the Additional Products header, select on Integration Manager and click Install on the popup menu:

A number of my clients use Integration Manager for loading data into Microsoft Dynamics GP; a number of the integrations are either available only with, or run faster with, the eConnect adaptor. So before Integration Manager itself can be installed, eConnect needs to be installed on the client machine.

eConnect is available through the setup utility under the Additional Products header. Before you get to select this though, you may need to click through some security warnings.

Depending on server settings, you might receive multiple security warnings during the installation; click Run on each one as it appears:

Hands On With MDGP 2018 RTM: Deploy Excel Reports

The deployment of the Excel Reports is is done via Reporting Tools Setup (Administration area page >> Setup >> System >> Reporting Tool Setup). Click the Excel Reports tab.

Change the Location to Network Share. Reports Directory can be set at both the System Level (for the out of the box reports) and User Level for customised reports.

You can also set a subfolder for where the reports are to be deployed; this is useful when you have more than just the Microsoft Dynamics GP reports deployed onto the report server.

Make sure the checkboxes in the Deployment Options section are checked and click the Deploy Reports button.

Hands On With MDGP 2018 RTM: Before Deploying the Reporting Services Reports

Now that Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 RTM has been installed and confirmed working, it’s time to deploy the Reporting Services Reports. However, before I do so, there are two tasks which need to be done first.

The first is to ensure SQL Server Reporting Services itself has been configured to work with Microsoft Dynamics GP. This isn’t actually too difficult, it just requires the following element to be added to the web.config file:

    maxRequestLength="20690"

This blog post has detailed instructions of how to make this configuration change.

The second change may not be needed; it will depend on the security settings on your PC or server, but I find myself making this change in advance anyway so that I do not have any issues and so that my AD login is automatically used. When I don’t make this change, I have had problems deploying the reports; when I make the attempt, the deployment hangs and eventually fails.

The change is to add the SSRS website to the Local Intranet zone. To do this, launch Internet Explorer, clikc the cog icon and then select Internet options:
