Microsoft Dynamics GP: Information about the VAT 100 Return

Microsoft Dynamics GPSr. Technical Support Engineer Cheryl Waswick did a post yesterday on the Dynamics GP Support and Services Blog about the upcoming Making Tax Digital changes for VAT submission in the UK.

Microsoft have been fielding a lot of questions from partners about the VAT 100 Report in relation to Making Tax Digital and have put together some information on VAT 100 in a Q&A format.

As Cheyrl notes, that post should not be your sole source of information, but the information there may be useful.

Cheryl also says that a post is due soon with details on how Microsoft Dynamics GP will be meting the requirements of Making Tax Digital.

Who Are ISC Software?

ISC Software SolutionsAs I mentioned in the last post, I have joined ISC Software Solutions, a Microsoft Dynamics GP VAR (Value Added Reseller) and ISV (Independent Software Vendor), as the Lead ERP Consultant.

ISC Software are Microsoft business software specialists whose ethos is centered upon our customers. We deliver products and solutions in the way that best meets the needs of our customers and the industries in which they work.

ISC Software are a privately owned company that focuses on the delivery of business software solutions. Our company was formed in 2003, following a management buyout of the Business Solutions Division of ISC Computers plc. We are headquartered in Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom, with an additional office based in Dublin, Ireland. Our focus is purely Microsoft business management software:

  • Microsoft Dynamics GP
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM
  • Microsoft SharePoint
  • Microsoft Azure and Office 365

In addition to having a team of Dexterity developers for extending Microsoft Dynamics GP, ISC Software also use mainstream technologies, primarily Microsoft .NET and tools, Visual Studio .NET, to customise the standard Microsoft products, in our role as a Microsoft partner to provide the extra 20% needed to extend products further to meet exact customer requirements.

ISC Software offer a comprehensive range of consulting, custom software development and support services to assist customers to improve efficiencies through automating processes, accessing key data and sharing information.

“Times change and we change with them” or “I have a new job”

ISC Software SolutionsAfter just over 7 years with Perfect Image, I decided it was time to move on and have accepted a position with ISC Software as the Lead ERP Consultant; I started in my new role on Monday last week. This is a change for me as I was the ERP Practice Manager at Perfect Image, but I decided to step out of management back into a role with a stronger focus on projects and delivery of consultancy to clients.

ISC Software is, in addition to being a Microsoft Dynamics GP VAR (Value Added Reseller), an ISV (Independent Software Vendor) and have released a suite of add-ons and portals for Microsoft Dynamics GP; this is an additional area with which I will be involved. This means that I am likely to be involved in promoting these add-ons and portals (I’m sure you’ll have guessed that there will be blog posts about them in the near future); this may also involve attending conferences, so you may be able to meet me face-to-face instead of just reading my posts online.

Over the next few posts, I’m going to quickly introduce ISC Software, their services as well as the add-ons and portals, before following up over the next few months with more detailed posts on the various add-ons and portals.

Payables Management Batch Posting Date Disabled When Workflow Active

Microsoft Dynamics GPA client recently logged an issue whereby the Posting Date on the Payables Batch Entry window (Purchasing area page » Transactions » Batches) in some companies:

Payables Batch Entry with Posting Date disabled

When we investigated the issue, it turned out that the field was disabled in those companies which had a Payables Transaction Approval workflow active; I did additional testing and the Payables Batch Approval workflow does not have the same effect.

Factory Reset An iPhone

AppleWhen I was at Perfect Image I had a work phone, which was an iPhone 5. Tjis was an absolutely terrible phone which I was delighted to hand back. However, I’d had it for a few years and it was linked to an iTunes account in my name, had my fingerprint locking it, so I needed to do a factory reset.

The process to reset a iPhone isn’t too difficult, but I always struggled to navigate around the OS.

To reset an iPhone, perform the following steps:

Launch the Settings app and select General:

Remove Microsoft Account From A PC

WindowsThe steps to remove/unlink a Microsoft Account, including associated Microsoft Store, from a PC are actually quite simple, but I had to do a search to find them. Writing them down will help me to remember in future.

To unlink a Microsoft Account, open the Manage your account window from the Windows Start menu:

Windows Start menu search for account

Local by Flywheel: Review

Local By FlywheelThis post is part of the series on Local by Flywheel.

Over the course of this series, I’ve installed Local by Flywheel, created and tested the default WordPress site and also accessed the local development site from the Internet.

Overall I have been very impressed with Local by Flywheel. It is a very easy installation, flexible yet simple setup and easy enough to access both internally and externally.

It would be nice, in future, to see ClassicPress available as a default install rather than having to either migrate the default WordPress one or manually replace it with ClassicPress, but that might come with time as ClassicPress grows.

Local by Flywheel: Test Updated Site Works

Local By FlywheelThis post is part of the series on Local by Flywheel.

The change to the wp.config file is the last of the changes needed to complete the migration of the live site into Local by Flywheel.

With the complete, you can access the site and test to make sure that everything has migrated correctly.

Local by Flywheel: Update wp.config

Local By FlywheelThis post is part of the series on Local by Flywheel.

The final step of migrating a live site into Local by Flywheel is to change the wp.config file; this is what tells the WordPres site which database to connect and the credentials to do so.

The settings required for the wp.config file can be found on the Database tab in Local by Flywheel:
