Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 RTM: First Run Of The Web Client

Microsoft Dynamics GPNow that Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 RTM is available, I thought I could follow my usual pattern of posting a series of posts on how to install and configure both Dynamics GP, but also the additional products which ship with it. You can find the series index for these posts here.

Over the last few posts, I have walked through the install and configuration of the Dynamics GP web client. Now it’s time to log into the web client for the first time.

Open Internet Explorer, or you web browser of choice which can be extended with Silverlight, and navigate to http://{address}/GP where {address} is the name or address of the web server running the Session Central Service (in my case the machine is called PI-GP.

When the page loaded, enter your Windows Domain User Name and Password:

Internet Explorer - Web Client Login

As I am trying to log into the web client on a brand new VM I do not have Silverlight installed so I am was presented with a install link. Click the Click now to install button on the page:

To view this content, please install Silverlight

You’ll be prompted to confirm leaving the web client page; click Leave this page to confirm:

Windows Internet Explorer - Are you sure you want to leave this page?

At the bottom of the IE window there’ll be a link to either Run or Save; click the former:

Do you want to run or save Silverlight_x64.exe

On the Install Silverlight popup, click Install now:

Install Silverlight

Choose whether to Enable Microsoft Update and click Next:

Enable Microsoft Update?

After install is complete, click Close:

Refresh the web client page and you should see the Choose an Action page. Under Reconnect to an Existing Session, click on Reconnect:

Internet Explorer - Web Client - Choose an Action

The Welcome to Microsoft Dynamics GP screen will be displayed; just as with the desktop client, select the Server, User ID and Password and click OK:

Internet Explorer - Web Client - Welcome to Microsoft Dynamics GP

As there is only one company in Dynamics GP so far (I did this step before creating a company), GP has logged straight in and displayed the sample company warning message:

Microsoft Dynamics GP – You have chosen to use the sample company, which provides data that you can use to practice procedures or learn more about the product. When you use this sample company, the date is automatically set to April 12, 2017.Microsoft Dynamics GP – You have chosen to use the sample company, which provides data that you can use to practice procedures or learn more about the product. When you use this sample company, the date is automatically set to April 12, 2017.

The web client is as functional as the desktop client; and as of the 2015 versions seems to be as responsive:

Click the Exit GP to log out of Dynamics GP:

Internet Explorer - Web Client - You have successfully exited GP
